The Technical Competition at AMUG is arguably the industry's most prestigious awards, each year competitors submit their wares to the most experienced judges who select the best in two categories (Advanced Concepts and Advanced Finishing). Each year the quality only seems to go up and this year's shortlist is nothing short of stunning. Here's a sneak peak at some of the entries:
Normally we're used to seeing parts in the Advanced Concepts category but this Support Cleaning Apparatus from Brad Palumbo from Padt Inc has been nominated for its innovative approach to help remove FDA supports.

The first of two Star Wars entries in the Technical Competition is this mask of Rylo Ken that was 3D printed using Somos SLA Resins and was finished by hand by Mike Scianna and John Warner.
This piece called The Unformed Idea by Brad Duermit combined many different finishing processes but is an SLS print that has, despite its appearance, not been coated, sealed or painted.

This unique process has been developed by ExOne and creates a 3D holograph from any standard JPG file and is then 3D Printed in bronze.

The loveable BB-8 robot was built by Todd Reese of Realize Inc. to an aggressive timeline to meet the Force Friday merchandising event at Target Stores across the U.S. Made using Realize's unique SLA techniques and finished by hand.

Custom Prototypes submitted this incredible Van Gogh replica, having scanned the original painting and its carved canvas, Custom 3D printed the base using SLAand then was finished with the help of an art consultant recreating every point and colour on the surface.

This additively manufactured diesel pump front plate submitted by Professor Phill Dickens of Added Scientific shows how Delphi were able to make a weight saving of 40% by applying additive design.

The Under Armor Architech shoe submitted by Alan Guyan uses Autodesk's Within software to create a generatively designed midsole which is printed in SLS using Luvosint TPU material.
