EnvisionTEC E-IDB IDS 2017
Using the E-IDB material in an EnvisionTEC Vida 3D printer, four custom trays can be built in 45 minutes, with little-to-no need for post processing.
Leading provider of professional-grade 3D printing technology, EnvisionTEC will this week preview a new dental 3D printing material at IDS 2017.
The E-IDB material will be debuted at the world’s largest dental show in Cologne, Germany. It adds to EnvisionTEC’s already impressive materials library for dental applications.
Specifically, the E-IDB is suitable for printing indirect bonding trays, allowing for fast, accurate application of orthodontic brackets that release with ease. Using the material in an EnvisionTEC Vida 3D printer, four custom trays can be built in 45 minutes, with little-to-no need for post processing.
“EnvisionTEC’s flexible E-IDB material finally allows doctors to 3D print their own indirect bonding trays right in the office rather than rely on suppliers,” said EnvisionTEC CEO, Al Siblani. “This change gives clinicians more control over their trays, and how tight or loose they prefer them, as well as the entire treatment process.”
Indirect bonding trays allow orthodontic offices to place brackets on a patient’s teeth in about half the time as individual bracket placements, which can take up to two hours. Custom trays are first created in a digital environment to match a digital representation of the patient’s mouth, making room for the specific brackets that should be adhered to each individual tooth. Using software, companies like EnvisionTEC are able to locate the precise position on a patient’s tooth, which ensures shorter treatment times. Once the tray has been printed, the technician can insert the individual brackets.
Next, the custom 3D printed tray containing all the brackets can be placed into the patient’s mouth, quickly lining up brackets to the optimal position on each tooth. A UV light will then be used to adhere the brackets to the teeth, the guide is removed, and finally all the individual brackets are transferred to the teeth.
To further accelerate EnvisionTEC’s growing presence in the dentistry sector, the company has partnered with 3Shape. 3Shape, who is also working with Formlabs, has made available its Trios scanner and Ortho Analyzer software, which will work hand-in-hand with Vida for tray production. A leading 3D scanning and CAD/CAM software player in the dental industry, 3Shape will be showcasing the EnvisionTEC Vida and new E-IDB capabilities at IDS from March 21st to March 25th. 3Shape will be presenting at Hall 4.2, stands L090, N091 and N090 for the duration of the exhibition.
