Plant based plastics designed for the food service industry.
US based custom manufacturer, VistaTek LLC, has introduced SelfEco LLC, a new independent company manufacturing plant-based plastics in the US.
The new company produces biocompostable affordable caterware, cutlery and drinkware designed for the catering and food service industry.
Danny Mishek, SelfEco President and VistaTek Managing Director: “Plant-based plastics are important to the future of injection moulding and the plastics industry. We are excited to provide this new sustainable product series.”
SelfEco products are made from PLA but not with 3D printing, performing much like traditional plastic but not petroleum based to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels in plastic manufacturing.
The company utilises its in-house 3D printer to create prototypes in the same PLA material. SelfEco says it has successfully completed designs, prototypes and moulds for more than 20 products in a six-month period using VistaTek’s InstaTek process. The tooling and injection moulding process enables parts t be created in 5-10 days
“Using our patent-pending hanger design, our plastic ware is stackable with cutlery artfully attached to enhance food presentation while minimizing germs and lost utensils,” explained Chad Shaffer, SelfEco Product Designer.
Mishek added: “As a third generation manufacturer, we are proud to make these products on US soil to compete with petroleum-based plastics.”
