German 3D printer manufacturer, SLM Solutions has removed Dr Markus Rechlin from his position as CEO and management board member with immediate effect.
Uwe Bogershausen, the company’s chief financial officer, will take over the CEO’s responsibilities. No reason for Dr Rechlin’s dismissal has yet been given.
“The Supervisory Board of SLM Solutions Group AG took the decision (on Monday 23rd January) to remove Dr. Markus Rechlin from his position as CEO and from the Management Board of SLM Solutions Group AG,” a brief company statement read. “(We) thank Dr Rechlin for his many years of dedicated and committed contribution to the company. As from now, the Executive Board of SLM Solutions consists of Uwe Bogershausen and Henner Schoneborn.”
Dr Rechlin joined SLM Solutions in August 2013 and was responsible for the company's Research and Development; Purchase and Logistics; Production; Quality; Service; and Key Client Accounts.
Prior to SLM Solutions, Dr Rechlin had worked with Bain Capital since 2004, acting as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group and as its Manager. Earlier, he worked as a Business Unit Manager for Draeger Medical, where had global Purchase and Logistics responsibility for intensive care, patient monitoring and hospital information systems of the business. Dr Rechlin also holds a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Rheinich-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen.
Dr Rechlin’s departure comes just months after SLM Solutions was the subject of a failed General Electric takeover. SLM lowered its 2016 targets last December, citing the failed GE takeover, which led to uncertainty among customers and slow revenue growth in the second half of the year. GE abandoned its €630 million bid for SLM after opposition from Elliott Advisors, which owns 20% of the 3D printer manufacturer. GE instead decided to acquire Concept Laser.
