Polaroid 3D Printer
2015 was the year for household names moving into the 3D printing industry with huge brands like HP and Canon teasing big "breakthroughs" for this year. This week at CES, Polaroid joins the ranks by making its play in the desktop 3D printing market with the launch of its first desktop machine, the Polaroid ModelSmart 250S 3D printer.
Partnering with UK manufacturer and re-manufacturer of inkjet cartridges, Environmental Business Products (EBP) which entered the 3D printing space in 2014, Polaroid has developed a 3D printer and consumables range that will be available exclusively on the European market this year.
Making its debut in Las Vegas, the ModelSmart 250S is a FDM machine that uses proprietary Polaroid/EBP filament and software. The printer can produce parts up to 250(w) x 150(h) x 150(d) mm with a resolution up to 350 microns. The machine also uses unique double sided adhesive sheets for the print bed to allow better adhesion and removal of prints coupled with a smartchip mechanism that can detect filament levels.
