Polaroid 3D Printer
2015 was the year for household names moving into the 3D printing industry with huge brands like HP and Canon teasing big "breakthroughs" for this year. This week at CES, Polaroid joins the ranks by making its play in the desktop 3D printing market with the launch of its first desktop machine, the Polaroid ModelSmart 250S 3D printer.
Partnering with UK manufacturer and re-manufacturer of inkjet cartridges, Environmental Business Products (EBP) which entered the 3D printing space in 2014, Polaroid has developed a 3D printer and consumables range that will be available exclusively on the European market this year.
Making its debut in Las Vegas, the ModelSmart 250S is a FDM machine that uses proprietary Polaroid/EBP filament and software. The printer can produce parts up to 250(w) x 150(h) x 150(d) mm with a resolution up to 350 microns. The machine also uses unique double sided adhesive sheets for the print bed to allow better adhesion and removal of prints coupled with a smartchip mechanism that can detect filament levels.

“Throughout our history, the Polaroid brand has been associated with creating innovative products, but we’re also committed to making innovative technologies accessible to everyone,” Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid, explained. “Just as the first Polaroid Land camera enabled people to watch a picture instantly develop, our relationship with EBP will allow us to bring the magic of creating an object right before your eyes to consumers across Europe.”
Aleem Hosein, Managing Director of Environmental Business Products, added: “We are passionate about 3D print technology. Partnering with a trusted, household name like Polaroid will help 3D printing become part of everyone’s everyday life. EBP believes in offering the most creative and innovative experiences so it is great to partner with a brand which embodies the same values as us.”
