New facility will host research and development into materials for EKOCYCLE Cube
3D Systems has become well known for its expansions and acquisitions. The latest addition to its ever-growing business is a newly opened facility in Ohio to support its 3D printer filament manufacturing.
The new 30,500 square foot facility in Barberton has been opened to expand the company’s manufacturing operations for 3D printer filament materials and plastic extrusion.
Avi Reichental, President and CEO of 3D Systems, said, “This new state of the art manufacturing facility will support our expansion and further development of advanced filament based materials as we meet growing demand for our consumer printers.”
Last year, 3D Systems acquired Village Plastics, increasing the company’s demand for filament based materials technology and expertise in large-scale materials manufacturing.
The expansion will also extend the company’s research and development innovations in thermoplastic materials including two new industry-leading materials which will be manufactured on the new premises.
One of these new materials is partly made from recycled PET for use with the EKOCYCLE Cube whilst the other is an engineering grade nylon filament designed to utilise 3D printed thermoplastic parts with the new CubePro.
The expansion poses to create yet more jobs in the industry for people in the local community in addition to those proposed earlier this week when 3D Systems announced plans for its new manufacturing and distribution facility in South Carolina.
Mayor William Judge, City of Barberton, Ohio, said, “We’re extremely pleased that 3D Systems selected the City of Barberton as its new home for its manufacturing site. It demonstrates a strong commitment to local manufacturing and creating jobs in our community.”
