China’s first DLP 3D printer research and development corporation, QSQM Technology, has been acquired for $1m by Nanjing F.M. company and is set to launch a new low-cost version of its successful Uncia printer this week.
QSQM was the first company in China to release a business-class DLP printer, the QM1 and recently headed a successful campaign on crowdfunding site, Indigogo to promote an affordable, high quality, desktop DLP 3D printer.
The Uncia, which utilises a projector function to turn liquid into delicately detailed objects, received huge interest from the public gaining 84 sponsors before closing. The campaign raised over 700% of its £500 goal and offered pledgers the chance to get their machines for up to half of its retail price of $999.
The two big names have set up their headquarters in Nanjing, China, with support from Nanjing National Institute of Advanced Laser Technology and will focus on developing more reliable and cost effective DLP and SLA 3D printers.
The acquisition comes at an exciting time as the company prepares to launch a second campaign on Indigogo on August 1st. The new project will support an upgraded version of the Uncia, which boasts better quality prints and a considerably lower price tag of $299 in a bid to make 3D printing affordable to everyone.
