Renishaw has scooped a Queen's Award for Enterprise 2013 thanks to its revolutionary REVO measurement system.
The global engineering technologies company is delighted to announce that it took home the prize in the Innovations category, making it the firm's 16th Queen's Award since its formation in 1973 - and its seventh in just 10 years.
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are presented annually by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee including representatives from the Government, industry and commerce, and trade unions. Prizes are awarded solely on merit and competition is known to be fierce. Indeed the number of accolades presented each year is not pre-set, as it is dependent on the quality of applications received.
Renishaw's Chairman and Chief Executive Sir David McMurtry commented: "REVO is one of the most technically complex products that we have ever developed and it has been a game-changer for the measurement sector.
"Whilst it has already won numerous international awards, to receive a Queen's Award for innovation is very special as they continue to be regarded as the UK’s most prestigious awards for recognising commercial and technological success."
The REVO five-axis multi-sensor probing system is used on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to significantly improve accuracy and throughput when inspecting complex parts including different types of gears, automotive cylinder blocks and aero-engine blades.
REVO is the only 3D scanning system for CMMs that can control the motion of three machines and two head axes at the same time as collecting workpiece data using its range of 2D, 3D and surface roughness measurement probes.
Its intuitive design incorporates sophisticated laser measurement and electrical signal transmission technology for precise workpiece measurement and electrical signal transmission technology for precise workpiece measurement at extremely high rates of data capture.
The REVO's five-axis control system removes most of the unwanted dynamic errors associated with machine movement as the measuring head performs most of the work. The head is much lighter and more dynamic than the CMM and can therefore follow changes in the part geometry quickly without introducing harmful dynamic errors.
