Sciaky to provide EBAM solution to Lockheed Martin
Sciaky, Inc., world leader in large-scale, metal additive manufacturing solutions, is to provide one of its exclusive electron beam additive manufacturing systems to Lockheed Martin Space Systems.
The system has been acquired to assist Lockheed Martin, global security and aerospace company, in reducing time and costs in the production of titanium propulsion tanks. It is the second multi-million dollar order from a major global manufacturing company since the machines were made available to the marketplace in July.
“Sciaky is proud to partner with a progressive leader like Lockheed Martin Space Systems” said Mike Riesen, general manager of Sciaky, Inc. “Sciaky’s EBAM technology will help Lockheed Martin significantly reduce material costs, lead times, and machining times.”
Sciaky’s EBAM process starts with a 3D model from a CAD program. Sciaky's fully-articulated, moving electron beam gun then deposits metal layer by layer, until the part reaches near-net shape. The finished part requires minor post-production machining.
Encompassing a large 110” x 110” x 110” (L x W x H) build envelope, the EBAM system will allow Lockheed Martin to produce large-scale optimised titanium parts, with virtually no waste.
Lockheed Martin Space Systems designs, develops, tests, manufactures and operates a full spectrum of advanced-technology systems for national security, civil and commercial customers. The company’s range includes products such as parts for human space flight systems, satellites, space observatories and missile defence systems.
Sciaky will feature at this year’s TCT Show at the NEC in Birmingham from September 30th to October 2nd.
