EyeCue Vision Technologies, an Israeli technology company best known for developing interactive toys and games, has launched its first mobile application which allows users to 3D scan, and then 3D print, real life objects.
Qlone is designed to make 3D printing more accessible, and more seamless. Via the free app, able to be downloaded on IOS devices, and soon Android ones too, users can scan objects on an Augmented Reality (AR) mat, use editing tools to refine the capture, and export the scan in a number of formats.

“With Qlone, our aim is to truly democratise 3D by removing barriers for 3D content creation for everyone, whether it’s for 3D printing, AR/VR content creation, sharing and selling,” said Ronen Horovitz, CEO of EyeCue Vision Technologies. “The possibilities with Qlone are truly endless.”
By placing the desired object on the AR mat, the user is simply required to walk around it to capture a 360 degree view. Then, they need to do it again, this time from a different angle. The app will then auto-merge the two scans to generate a quality scan. Qlone’s integrated editing tools then enable the capture to be resized, refined, smoothed and coloured. The scan will be stored in a gallery, until the user decides what to do with it. Scans can be shared via social media, exported in OBJ, STL, PLY and X3D formats, or deleted if the scan isn’t satisfactory.

Exporting a file does come at a cost, but EyeCue offers ‘credit packs’ which soften the blow. One export will cost $2.99; five cost $12.99, ten cost $19.99, and for a 25-credit pack it will cost $39.99.
Qlone was launched a little under a month ago on the IOS US app store and will soon be made available for Android devices.
