Broken Bells
Broken Bells
Jacob Escobedo's visuals have been turned into 3D printable models for you to download.
The artwork for Broken Bells’ latest album centres on a retro sci-fi theme, this aesthetic pours into the video and into the sounds of the side-project from Danger Mouse and Shins frontman James Mercer.
Their two album covers both feature a pink orb, in the video for their latest single Leave it Alone the same Orb travels the globe metamorphosing into all manner of objects before returning to it’s planetary form.
The orb was created by head of design at Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, Jacob Escobedo. Jacob’s artwork has been central to the appearance of Broken Bells and his two dimensional visuals have stepped into the third dimension as the band release files to 3D print some of the artwork's visuals.
Jacob’s commissioner and chief, Danger Mouse AKA Brian Burton is known for being at the cutting edge of technology with his music, his collaboration with Cee Lo Green - Gnarls Barkley saw him become the first ever artist to achieve a number one single based on downloads alone. He later collaborated with Gorillaz to produce their second album and holographic live show for Demon Days. His love and knowledge of technology makes the move into 3D printing hardly surprising.
So how do you get your hands on one? By visiting the Broken Bells’ site you can download the model of either the Orb or the Intergalactic girl of the album’s motif: a girl in a pink spacesuit. The girl is an ode to the sci-fi novel Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, and can be downloaded with or without a stand.
If you’ve not got access to a 3D printer there is a chance to win some pre-printed models y emailing CoCreateBrokenBells@gmail.com.
