Dassault Systèmes has announced the launch of its latest industry solution experience for aerospace and defence “Build to Operate”, which will allow more control over manufacturing operations.
Over the next decade, thousands of aircraft are set to retire and with it the next global aviation build cycle is already well underway. To meet this growth, OEMs and large suppliers are looking to implement lean practices that improve program performance and equip manufacturing operations.
Based on Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the “Build to Operate” solution offers OEMs and large suppliers the ability to monitor, control and validate all aspects of manufacturing operations ranging from replicable processes and production sequences, to the flow of deliverables throughout their supply chain on a global scale.
“Instant visibility on all levels of productivity—plant, line, station, cell and individual—is a critical enabler to continuous improvement, and ‘Build to Operate’ brings this capability to existing production lines and accelerates the ramp-up of new lines to reach optimal rate,” said Michel Tellier, Vice President, Aerospace & Defense Industry, Dassault Systèmes. “Aerospace companies implementing this ‘factory of the future’ today can expect benefits that include as much as a 25 percent reduction in errors, 20 percent less waste and up to a 15 percent improvement in first-time quality.”
Key features of the new platform include closed-loop visibility of all manufacturing operations, to assess risks and implement mitigation procedures and the global deployment of lean manufacturing featuring a virtual “replay” and analytics environment. Users will also have access to real-time KPIs and analytics of warehouse, production and quality data across the extended enterprise to detect quality risks and root causes for the prevention of composite or additive manufacturing defects. OEMs will also benefit from real-time traceability of supplier data, enabling quick containment and disposition of quality issues and controlled flow of deliverables that minimise the risks of installing defective components and of incomplete deliveries.
