Jim Fendrick from SLM Solutions, talks to TCT at RAPID 2016 about the metal additive manufacturing company’s range of industrial 3D printing systems. We take a look at its largest machine, the SLM 500 which features up to four laser capabilities for increased production in a range of materials including titanium, stainless steel, Inconel and aluminium.
“Strictly metals” with a current focus on aerospace applications, in particular turbine engines, we hear how SLM customers are using these advanced machines for real manufacturing applications rather than just prototyping.
Jim explained: “The industry is becoming more mature because more people are starting to use this for manufacturing. It is a more involved process because it’s not just the machine, it’s a whole manufacturing process that has to be addressed to get any kind of repeatability out of your parts.
