Vienna-based Lithoz has been a leader in the additive manufacture of high-performance ceramics since it began working on its Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM) technology in 2006 at the Vienna University of Technology.
LCM adopts the principles of stereolithography by using a mixture of photopolymer resins and ceramic particles to produce high-performance ceramic parts.
As evidenced by the number of ceramic 3D printing companies on the show floor at this year's formnext powered by tct in Frankfurt, ceramics are a much sought after material due to their ability to perform under extreme environments that metals and polymers often fail under. Demand for ceramic technology comes from all areas of industry but particularly in the medical sector where they can be used to produce bone replacements that can be placed inside the human body.
TCT Group Editor, Daniel O’Connor spoke to Johannes Homa, CEO and Co-founder at Lithoz, about the significance of 3D printed ceramics, the importance of looking at the entire process chain, and why it’s all about three things: “quality, quality, quality”.
