The TruPrint 3000 platform
Trumpf, the German machine tool and laser system manufacturer, has announced it will be introducing the new TruPrint 3D printing platform, TruPrint 1000 with multi-laser option to market at TCT Show in September.
Additionally, Trumpf offers two more 3D printing platforms: The TruPrint 3000 and TruPrint 5000 are medium format machines based on the same laser metal fusion (LMF) technology as the TruPrint 1000. Whereas the TruPrint 1000 could generate parts up to 100 millimetres in diameter and height, these machines can produce larger parts of up to 300 millimetres in diameter and 400 millimetres in height.
With an ‘ingenious’ interchangeable cylinder concept, the machines’ construction chambers and supply cylinders can quickly be switched out. Their industry-standard peripheries further strengthen their ability to produce complex metal parts out of powder.
Trumpf says it has made a concentrated effort to address the complete process chain for additive manufacturing with its machines. The first step, is data preparation for the 3D design of a part, and thus the machines boast the ‘TruTops Print with Siemens NX’ software package. Additionally, the platform enables users to apply any of a variety of solutions to monitor, analyse, and remotely adjust a wide range of condition parameters during the manufacturing process.
All machines can handle a variety of weldable materials, such as forms of steel, nickel-based alloys, titanium and aluminium. Since the TruPrint 3000 is equipped with two supply cylinders, up to 75 litres of powder are available for each job, which is around two and a half times the construction volume. Trumpf says this is enough powder to complete the entire manufacturing process without having to stop for refilling. If the powder were to run low, the tool change cylinder feature then kicks in: the TruPrint 3000 is designed so that the supply and overflow cylinders can be changed out without interrupting the manufacturing process. This reduces downtimes while also increasing the 3D printer’s productivity.
The industrial part and powder management is part of the whole 3D printing process. There is an automated sieve station which refines several hundred kilograms of powder every hour. For the post-processing of a print, Trumpf has added an unpacking station to the production program, which is seamlessly integrated into the process chain.
Trumpf’s TruPrint 1000 new option equips the machine with two 200-Watt lasers instead of one. The TruPrint 3000 maintains one 500 Watt laser, and the TruPrint 5000 was presented featuring three 500-Watt lasers, simultaneously active at multiple points in the process chamber. Parts are therefore, once again, generated in even faster times. The multi-laser options offer maximum productivity.
The TruPrint platforms will be showcased by Trumpf at Stand B24 at the TCT Show in September.
