3D Printhuset has established a new company to manufacture and sell the BOD2 construction 3D printer.
COBOD International will now be responsible for bringing the revamped gantry printing system to market. The original printer, BOD1, was harnessed by 3D Printhuset to construct the first 3D printing building in Europe, The BOD. Wanting to build on the success of that first machine, 3D Printhuset this year set about upgrading the system, making it modular and ten times faster than the original, with an apparent build speed of 1 metre per second.
The company made the BOD2 commercially available this year, with Kamp C an early adopter. It consists of modules 2.5 metres in length, and each installed system must have a minimum of one X-module, two Y-modules, and four Z-modules.
Through the summer, per 3D Printhuset, demand has increased significantly, and the company felt it necessary to divide the construction 3D printing activities from the rest of the business.
“With the large demand that we have seen for our 3D construction printing offer, including for our state of the art BOD2 construction printer, but also for our know-how and courses on 3D construction printing, these activities grew to deserve their own dedicated company,” commented Henrik Lund-Nielsen, CEO of COBOD International. “3D Printhuset is doing multiple other successful activities beside 3D construction printing, but lately we got so much attention to the 3D construction printing that some started to believe that we no longer did the other activities.
"Hence, it made sense to separate out all the 3D construction printing activities in a new company only dedicated to 3D construction printing and I will personally take charge of the new company as the CEO due to the huge growth potential which COBOD has.”
