3D Systems has partnered with precision machining solutions provider, GF Machining Solutions to deliver a new concept in factory automation that will enable manufacturers to efficiently produce complex metal parts.
Combining 3D Systems’ expertise in additive manufacturing (AM) with GF Machining Solutions’ leadership in precision machining, this partnership will enable manufacturers to more efficiently produce metal parts within tight tolerances, and reduce total cost of operation.
Few details have been released about the project but the plan is to deliver a new concept that includes software for enhanced part design, 3D printers, materials and automated material handling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), milling equipment and advanced post-processing technologies. The partners believe the solution will improve existing products and enable new designs, business models and markets.
“We are excited about this new partnership of two industrial leaders,” said Yves Serra, chief executive officer, Georg Fischer. “With the combined experience and expertise of 3D Systems and GF Machining Solutions, we are well positioned to bring to our customers new manufacturing solutions based on 3D printing.”

“The 3D Systems and GF Machining Solutions partnership brings together two customer-centric innovators to redefine manufacturing and create the factory of the future,” said Vyomesh Joshi, president and chief executive officer, 3D Systems. “As industry leaders, both companies share the same vision for transforming manufacturing. We are looking forward to delivering integrated technology solutions to provide our customers with significant competitive advantage through reduced production time, faster time to part, and overall lower total cost of operation.”
This isn't the first time 3D Systems has turned its attention to the 'factory of the future'. Last year, the company unveiled its DMP 8500 Factory Solution, a scalable, automated, fully integrated platform designed to deliver a true end-to-end factory for metal AM designed for launch in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The companies plan to debut the first combined solution at IMTS 2018 on September 10-15 in Chicago. Visit 3D Systems on booth #431608 and GF Machining Solutions on booth #338754.
