adidas ALPHAedge
The adidas ALPHAedge 4D LTD shoes with 3D printed midsoles.
Global sportswear brand, adidas has announced the commercial release of the AlphaEDGE 4D LTD, the latest product of its partnership with Californian 3D printing company, Carbon.
The AlphaEDGE 4D LTD, like the Futurecraft 4D shoes, feature 3D printed midsoles, manufactured using Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) process.
adidas have the new shoes available to customers in Los Angeles via the company’s app, who can reserve them for $300 immediately, and collect from adidas’ Santa Minica and Culver City stores on Saturday February 17th. Limited pairs will also become available on the adidas website and in three retail locations across the LA area, including Nice Kicks, Bait, and Undefeated, from this weekend. The AlphaEDGE 4D LTD shoes are available in core black, grey, aero and ash green, and will be reserved on a first come first serve basis between Feb 12th and Feb 15th at 12pm PT.
Harnessing Carbon’s DLS 3D printing technology, enabled by the Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) process, adidas creates midsoles that are specifically tuned to provide a greater comfort and performance of its footwear products. The company believes the incorporation of Carbon’s technology has a big future in footwear, believing it will soon be able to be used to produce bespoke products to the individual needs of each user’s foot.
It represents the second product to emanate from the adidas/ Carbon collaboration which was announced in the Spring of 2017. The first product to emerge from this partnership won the TCT Consumer Product Application Award at the inaugural TCT Awards last September. Since, it has been made commercially available in New York, and is also retailing at $300.
