Wolfbite NITRO
California-based 3D printing company, Airwolf 3D, has launched Wolfbite NITRO, a new 3D printing adhesive designed to enable the bonding and smooth release of Nylon and Nylon Alloy/Polymer blend materials on glass and ceramic build plates.
Nylon and Nylon-based materials are ideal for printing high-strength functional parts because of its superior strength, heat resistance and ability to machine however they can be prone to warpage. Wolfbite NITRO has been created to eliminate shrinkage with an advanced chemical formulation that causes it to relax when the build plate cools down, allowing easy removal of the part.
”For the first time, 3D printer users can directly print Nylon on glass substrates. We’re extremely proud to have developed the first solution capable of effectively bonding Nylon to glass and ceramic build surfaces,” Erick Wolf, co-founder, Airwolf 3D, explained. ”The result is that users will see substantial improvement in the output of their Nylon 3D printed projects when using Wolfbite NITRO.”
The adhesive was developed at Airwolf 3D in collaboration with polymer chemist and additive manufacturing expert, Professor Miodrag ‘Mickey’ Micic, Sc.D., Ph.D., M.T.M., department chairman at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California.
On the collaboration, said Dr. Micic, commented: ”This new, environmentally friendly solution resolves the acute problem of Nylon-based 3D printing, part adhesion and warpage. The solution combines the latest results in the area of poly electrolyte chemistry, advanced polymer science and nano technology creating the best possible 3D Printing Nylon Adhesive solution. In terms of the bonding strength, this is the strongest Wolfbite solution developed, and is the only solution in the world which allows direct printing of large Nylon parts directly to glass.”
The launch comes shortly after the company announced the second generation of its AXIOM 3D printer series which features a dual extruder to unique material combinations. Wolfbite NITRO is available for $19.95 on the Airwolf 3D website.
