The axial3D Scientific Advisory Board
Medical 3D printing company, axial3D has established a Scientific Advisory Board which will dedicate its efforts to the development of automated medical 3D printing software.
axial3D is renowned in the MedTech industry for its software products, one of which, the Insight platform, was Highly Commended for the inaugural TCT Software Innovation Award last September. With the appointment of four experienced and accomplished medical professionals, Dr William ‘Pepper’ Denman, Dr Anish Ghodadra, Dr Alistair Hann, and Simon Fleming, axial3D has laid the platform for further growth and enhancements to be made to its software solutions.
“The search for a specialised Advisory Board to impact the current strategic aims of axial3D has been a fantastic experience, and we have been fortunate to attract such an experienced and diverse group to support our growth in the coming years,” said Daniel Crawford, Founder and CEO of axial3D. “As we expand the scope of axial3D’s 3D printing software and service portfolio, we have established an advisory team with existing support from the board of directors in finance, sales, machine learning and artificial intelligence and new infrastructure technologies. [It] ensures the company is positioned to embark on the next phase of growth. We look forward to working with these individuals and leveraging their guidance to further aial3D’s execution of our vision – making 3D printing routine in hospitals.”
Dr Denman, of the Massachusetts General Hospital, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Advisory Board. He is a highly qualified clinician, with years’ worth of experience working within global medical device organisations and smaller rapid growth businesses. The former Chief Medical Officer of GE Healthcare and Covidien, Denman is now practicing clinician in Massachusetts, specialising in paediatric anaesthesia and medical device development. He is also a keen researcher, authoring over 60 papers and conducting clinical trials in both pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Anish Ghodadra MD offers a combination of industrial, clinical and academic experience, and has background focused on diagnostic and interventional radiology. Currently an Interventional Radiology fellow at Yale New Haven Hospital, Anish was previously a medical device engineer before completing his medical training at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He went on to found and direct the UPMC Radiology 3D printing program where he developed novel low-cost techniques and applications for 3D printing in medicine.
Dr Alistair Hann is the Chief Technology Officer at TravelNest, and has experience in both medical and technology. With a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Oxford University and an early career in the development of medical equipment, Dr Hann is renowned in the tech industry for his role in big data analytics and scaling web and mobile technology.
The fourth appointment to the advisory board, Simon Fleming, has experience with some of the UK’s leading orthopaedic centres, working and training with Great Ormond Street, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and the Royal London Hospital. He is a Past President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees’ Association (BOTA), the Chief Resident for the International Conference in Residency Education (ICRE), and a mentor for the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur. Fleming also holds a position as Project Lead for the Orthopaedic section of the Royal College of Surgeons.
The establishment of the advisory board will see axial3D work towards the greater adoption of 3D printing in medical settings, hoping to firmly put the technology on the training agenda to ensure better surgical structures.
