Clariant
Clariant
Clariant will introduce a newly developed fire, smoke and toxicity compliant 3D printing material at Formnext.
The company is to showcase its PA6/66-GF20 FR LS which uses a base flame-retardant material called Exolit and is reinforced with glass fibres. Exoilt is compliant with EN 45545-2, NFPA 130 and SMP 800-C and has been developed to enable Clariant to produce industry standard materials so customers can additively manufacture end-use components.
At Formnext, Clariant will present a range of components printed in the PA6/66-GF20 FR LS material including unique rail applications. It will also spotlight some of its other production-enabling materials, including a flame retardant, glass fibre-reinforced polyamide 6, which also uses Exolit as the base material, and a number of other fibre-reinforced grades.
The polyamide 6, 20% glass fibre-reinforced, has been used to produce a component which makes up a charger for an electrical vehicle and will be on Clariant’s Formnext stand. The material uses a halogen-free Exolit flame retardant to achieve UL 94 V-0 levels down to 0.4mm and a glow wire ignition temperature of 750°C at 3.0mm thickness. Other parts to be showcased include interior and exterior automotive parts produced with a 20% carbon fibre-reinforced polyamide 6; a 15% glass fibre-reinforced PC+ABS; and a temperature stabilised 20% glass fibre-reinforced 25% mineral-filled polyamide 6.
“Clariant works closely with customers in a collaborative manner to ensure solutions for 3D printing,” commented David McCann, Senior Business Architect at Clariant’s 3D printing business. “Our materials are known to have the capabilities customers require for functional parts and Clariant provides the support and expertise needed to ensure the production of these parts. Customers desire certified materials like our newly-developed fire, smoke and toxicity compliant material and we will continue to provide unique solutions like this to customers.”
Clariant will present its additive manufacturing materials portfolio in Hall 12.1, Stand B111 at Formnext between November 19-22.
