EOS believes it is now capable of manufacturing up to 1,000 3D printing systems a year after relocating its hardware production facilities to Maisach-Gerlinden.
The new facility is located closer to the company’s headquarters in Krailing, and represents a significant increase to EOS’ production capacity. It measures 9,000 square-metres, and provides EOS with the space to enhance its manufacturing capabilities to an industrial scale, meeting the growing demand.
EOS has thousands of customers worldwide, players in such industries as aerospace harnessing the company’s Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology to manufacture end-use parts, as well as prototypes, for example. Recently, Aidro Hydraulics, an Italian hydraulic systems developer, revealed how it had been utilising DMLS, while FIT AG, Sintavia, and Liebherr Aerospace are also known owners of EOS's 3D printing systems.
“Our technology is the right choice for high-quality series manufacturing applications,” said Nikolai Zaepernick, Senior Vice President Central Europe at EOS. “We installed around 1,000 systems in the first ten years of our existence as a company, this number has increased significantly, particularly during the last two years. We now have an installed base of around 3,000 systems worldwide. Over the next few years we also expect to see a further significant demand for our technology. Within the scope of digital transformation, industrial 3D printing is one of the main driving forces taking us towards the digital factory of the future.”
Such are the demands and high quality standards of many of the industries EOS’ customers operate in, the performance of the company’s materials, processes and systems is vital. EOS supports the qualification of the technology at its customers’ premises, helping to shorten time to market for additively manufactured products. Factory acceptance tests (FATs) are also carried out when a customer purchases a 3D printing machine from EOS. At the new facility in Maisach, customers have the opportunity to involve themselves with these acceptance tests. Additionally, the machine qualification customarily performed by EOS, customers can request to have test builds carried out of parts they wish to manufacture in the future.
