EOS, a leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, has now announced its membership to the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC).
MTC is an Independent Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) and aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It has in the past few years experienced a rapid growth as shown in the expansion of its campus with three new major facilities including the opening of the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing in 2015.
Ross Trepleton, Chief Engineer at MTC said: “It’s fantastic to have EOS join the MTC as a global leader in industrial 3D printing. The company’s knowledge and experience in the sector will only benefit our wider-partner network, and we look forward to further strengthening this relationship moving forward.''
MTC is working with educating customers and helping them understand the benefits of the technology for their own production strategy. That is one of the reasons why EOS has decided to collaborate to demonstrate this continued commitment to the UK’s manufacturing sector.
MTC is active in external research programmes with Innovate UK and Horizon 2020, as well as membership with other organisations such as Siemens, Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems, and the membership gives the opportunity to benefit their investment as well as having a flexible way of working.
Gary Taylor, Regional Manager, UK&I commented: “A particularly significant challenge in the UK is the current skills gap. There is an apparent knowledge deficit of additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing in the UK, and globally. This is a critical barrier preventing businesses from embracing disruptive technologies—and ultimately remaining competitive against innovation elsewhere. It’s therefore important we’re working alongside organisations like the MTC and its members to enable the factories of the future.”
