Sciaky Inc. has seen an Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM) system installed in the Asia-Pacific for the first time as Hitachi Metals took delivery of the platform.
Hitachi Metals has purchased the EBAM 110 machine for use in its Global Research & Innovative Technology (GRIT) facility in Kumagaya, Japan. The company is a manufacturer serving a variety of vertical markets, including aerospace, automotive and medical, providing specialty steel products; magnetic materials and applications; functional components; and wires and cables-related products. It prides itself on developing and delivering these products and materials with high-quality and productivity, as well as taking into consideration energy conservation.
The EBAM 110 purchased by Hitachi Metals includes a dual wirefeed configuration, which will enable the company to combine two different metal alloys into a single melt pool, managed with independent program control, to create custom alloy parts or ingots. Hitachi Metals will also have the option to alternate between different wire gauges for fine deposition features and gross deposition features, to better meet the specifications of unique parts.
Having installed the EBAM 110 machine, Hitachi Metals is promising to innovate and think up new ways to put it to use, and Sciaky suspects this could have a big impact in the Asia-Pacific area.
“Hitachi Metals is pleased to launch its new metal wire additive manufacturing technology with the procurement of Sciaky’s EBAM 110 metal 3D printing system at out GRIT facility,” commented Yasuhiko Ohtsubo, 3DAM Development Manager of GRIT at Hitachi Metals. “We look forward to developing new materials and applications with this highly innovative process.”
“Sciaky is proud to extend our industry-leading technology with Hitachi Metals,” said Scott Phillips, President and CEO of Sciaky, Inc. “This is an important milestone for the industrial metal 3D printing market in Japan, and the forward-thinking leaders at Hitachi Metals are blazing a new trail for the Asia-Pacific region.”
