Desktop Metal Studio System
Laser Lines, a provider of 3D printers and 3D scanners, has become a UK reseller of Desktop Metal’s metal 3D printing systems.
Upon their respective commercial releases in late 2017 and early 2018, Laser Lines will sell and support on the Studio series and Production series.
The company has over two decades of experience in the 3D printing and scanning market, and has catered for companies looking to harness 3D technologies for manufacturing, rapid prototyping and reverse engineering purposes. Among the 3D printing machines it has been reselling in that timeframe is Stratasys’ FDM platforms, said to share similarities with the Bound Deposition Modelling that Desktop Metal’s products run on.
Laser Lines believes its prior dealings with Stratasys stands them in good stead to sell the Studio and Production systems, and provide support to future users. And it also believes those users can harness the technology to great effect.
“We are thrilled to have signed Desktop Metal as a supplier. It is a dynamic company to work with as it is rewriting the rule book in terms of possibilities for metal 3D printing,” said Mark Tyrtania, Sales Director at Laser Lines. "For those that are producing metal parts or are prototyping, Desktop Metal's machines are fast, great value and offer a wide range of materials.
"The Studio System's printing process of Bound Metal Deposition (BMD) is similar to Stratasys' FDM technology, which we have been selling for over 20 years, so it is a technology that we are familiar with. Within the metal printing space, it offers exciting, new opportunities for our market."
The Studio System, boasting a build area of 300 x 200 x 200mm, can print 16cm cubed/ hour and print layers as thin as 50μm. It has dual, quick-release print heads, hot swappable media cartridges for easy materials changes, and a software-controlled workflow which automatically calculates de-binding and sintering plans for each job. The platform, along with the Production series, caused a lot of excitement upon their launch in the spring of 2017, and Laser Lines is looking forward to delivering the products to users.
"The Desktop Metal series offers amazing functionality and great value," Tyrtania added. "Companies can now have a complete solution - including 3D printing machine, de-binder and furnace unit - that can be used with a wide variety of materials. The Desktop Metal Studio System is perfect for engineers looking for an in-house unit suitable for prototyping and creating sample parts."
