Layer By Layer acquired by MakerBot.
MakerBot has announced the acquisition of California based start-up software company, Layer By Layer, to work towards creating a more accessible 3D printing experience.
The company has been working with MakerBot to help make 3D printing technology easier and more accessible through innovations in design combined with computer science. The acquisition aims to accelerate MakerBot's position in the entertainment and 3D printing management spaces and ultimately build a more robust 3D ecosystem.
Layer By Layer recently worked with MakerBot to implement Secure streaming technology into the MakerBot Digital Store and a digital rights management system for 3D printable files, a first for the company.
“We see this as a major step forward in being able to support not only our licensed content partners with a secure digital rights management system, but other content as well,” said Jenny Lawton, acting CEO of MakerBot. “The team has been working on several really interesting projects and we are excited to implement added features and benefits to the MakerBot 3D Ecosystem."
As part of the acquisition Layer By Layer’s; Max Friefeld, Oliver Ortlieb and Jonathan Schwartz have moved to MakerBot’s Brooklyn office to work with MakerBot's Digital Products, Software and Business Development groups.

As Layer by Layer integrates into the MakerBot ecosystem, MakerBot will continue to work towards updating its software and apps to make 3D printing as seamless as possible
