SLM Solutions break ground on new production facility
Industrial metal 3D printing system provider, SLM Solutions has broke ground a new facility to further modernise its production to meet market demand faster and with increased reliability.
The company has also opened new North American office facilities to provide the local market with more application and customer services.
Located in Lubeck, Germany, SLM Solutions visited the site to commence its construction on December 21st 2016. Upon its completion, it will feature over 750,000 square feet of production, research and development, logistics and office headquarters.
“It is our dedicated aim to make our production and logistics fit for the future, to optimise existing processes, and to increase the delivery performance considerably,” said Uwe Bogershausen, SLM’s Chief Financial Director.
The building is also being built as an energy efficient office space and will house a work force expected to double in the coming years. The first delivery to a customer from the new production site is scheduled for March 2018.
In North America, the headquarters has also expanded to a new facility in Wixom, Michigan, offering over 13,000 square feet of office, warehouse, lab and post-processing space.
“With our growing customer base in North America, it was necessary for us to follow suit to meet the increasing demand for feasibility builds, process development and customer service,” stated Mark Hoefing, President of SLM Solutions NA.
Richard Grylls, Technical Director for SLM Solutions N.A., is also confident the new expansions will help SLM Solutions better serve its customers thanks to a range of new equipment.
“With three times more lab space, we have capacity to operate eight SLM Systems to better support future and existing customers,” Grylls said. “Our new workshop is being outfitted with all-new auxiliary equipment, including a mill to finish plates, a brand saw, heat treat furnace, and downdraft table. A state-of-the-art modular chiller, air and argon system is also installed, including full argon exhaust and oxygen alarms.
"The new facility also offers a dedicated training room, where full training classes will soon be offered. Overall, this new facility offers the space and amenities to serve our customers for many years.”
