Velo3D's Sapphire System
Stratasys Direct Manufacturing has announced the addition of Velo3D’s Sapphire 3D printing hardware and Flow software to its service offering.
The new technology will supplement Stratasys Direct Manufacturing’s repertoire of additive and conventional manufacturing tools as it works to produce existing and new parts to a host of customers in a host of industries.
Velo3D introduced its metal powder bed fusion platform at IMTS last year and announced updates to its Flow print preparation software as recently as February. The hardware has been designed to facilitate the manufacture of parts with complex geometries while reducing the need for support structures and is powered by the company’s Intelligent Fusion technology. Meanwhile, the software enables simulated print predictions, slicing, process review, and when supports are needed, the tools to generate them.
It all adds up, Stratasys Direct Manufacturing believes, to an additive manufacturing technology that can be harnessed to address the increasingly intricately designed parts being desired by its customers.
“The Sapphire system from Velo3D is an important part of advancing our capabilities to include using additive metals in applications and geometries previously challenging to 3D print,” commented Kent Firestone, CEO of Stratasys Direct Manufacturing. “This is a natural step in building our service portfolio, and we are excited to take on projects with more complexity to drive further adoption of serialised production additive manufacturing and push the boundaries of metal 3D printing.”
“The Sapphire system enables a new level of manufacturing above and beyond current metal additive manufacturing systems and we’re excited that Stratasys Direct has chosen to add this platform to their fleet,” added Benny Buller, CEO of Velo3D. “Stratasys Direct Manufacturing is a leader in metal additive manufacturing, advancing critical applications across many industries. Together, we look forward to pushing the boundaries of what is possible and solving the most complex customer problems with support-free metal AM.”
