TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI) has invested in two GE Additive Concept Laser M Line Factory and two M2 cusing systems.
The announcement was made on the opening day of the 2019 Paris Air Show and is an extension of the links between GE and Turkish Aerospace Industries, the parent organisation of TEI. TEI was founded in 1985 as GE Aviation entered into a joint venture with Turkish Aerospace Industries, the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, and the Turkish Aeronautical Association.
In the subsequent 30+ years, TEI has produced more than 1,000 parts for a range of aviation products and has also offered services to OEMs for an array of different types of military and commercial engine programmes. The company has now sought to add four direct metal laser melting (DMLM) machines to its repertoire of manufacturing technology, which also includes Arcam EBM machines. All four of the new 3D printing platforms will be installed at TEI’s Eskişehir headquarters.
“Today, we invest in TEI’s future by investing in additive manufacturing, ‘the future of manufacturing,” commented Professor Dr. Mahmut Faruk Akşit, President & CEO, TEI. “Our longstanding partnership and collaboration with GE is now broadening with GE Additive’s machine portfolio.”
“The M2 remains the machine of choice for our aerospace customers, and for good reason,” added Jason Oliver, President & CEO, GE Additive. “It’s not only the work horse of our machine portfolio, but it meets the specific needs and demands of this highly-regulated industry. And with so many aerospace customers on the cusp of industrialisation, our M Line Factory with its modular machine architecture, outstanding automation and reliability makes it the perfect solution to drive economical, scalable series production on an industrial scale.”
