Additive manufacturing software company, 3YOURMIND, has launched an update to its Additive Manufacturing Part Identifier (AMPI) which now allows users to automatically check a part's economic potential for 3D printing.
AMPI checks large part databases to decide whether a part makes is better suited to traditional or additive manufacturing. The analysis consists of both technical and economic aspects and is based on metadata of individual components, such as material selection, quality and production requirements or specifications from CAD programs (optional).
"Working closely with customers, we added two new ways to find AM suitable parts: first, it’s now possible for any employee to suggest items for AM by feeding them directly into AMPI," Stephan Kühr, 3YOURMIND’s CEO said. "Second, by enabling newly arriving print orders to be screened prior to being placed, companies can ensure the items are a definite fit for AM before moving into production."
One of the new features of the revised AM Part Identifier, first showcased at TCT Show in the UK last month, is Use Case Screening. The tool has been designed to make it simple for practically anyone within an organisation from design to production, to check components for their AM-feasibility.
Dominik Lindenberger, AM Part Identifier Product Manager at 3YOURMIND explained: "The value the new Use Case Screening directly affects employee's workflow. Designers, for example, can run new parts through our screening process and check whether they are potential AM parts before they even open a CAD program. They can then create an AM optimized design, avoiding costly redesigning of parts. And this is just one example of how departments can benefit from Use Case Screening."
3YOURMIND’s Enterprise platform facilitates automated printability analysis, part optimisation, material selection and price calculation, placement of print jobs in the production workflow, and comprehensive data analysis for AM. It can also be used to connect to a network of external printing service providers via an On-Demand Production service.
Visitors to Formnext 2018 can see demos on 3YOURMIND's booth in Hall 3.1, G70.
