Specialist in 3D scanning technology Artec Group has unveiled the first 3D scanning and 3D printing service available for home use, allowing anybody to '3D-fy' themself.
Shapify.me has been set up for Microsoft Kinect for Windows, or for Kinect for the Xbox 360 and enables users to san themselves in 3D, upload their scan to Shapify.me and then order their low-cost mini-me figurine.
Kinect users can individually scan themselves, their friends and family members and then upload the file to the website, where they can place an order for the figurine to be sent to their address. Scanning is easy with the voice instructions guiding users through the process online.
The mini-me is made in white or multi-coloured plastic and is one-twentieth of the individual's actual size. Customers have the option of painting their figurine if they feel so inclined and can even collect a whole miniature family, which could make an unusual alternative to a family photo at the office or an amusing gift.
Artec has made a number of scanning ideas to inspire; such as scanning the children to make a gift for grandparents, making a set of family Christmas tree ornaments and painting the family's football colours onto the shirts of the figurines to make a little sports team.
"Whatever you choose, it's only limited by the imagination and is now available from your home. Way more hip than just another photo," Artec says.
