3D Systems 3DXpert SOLIDWORKS
3DXpert delivers a direct design for additive manufacturing workflow for SOLIDWORKS users.
3D Systems has become the latest company to announce a software partnership with Dassault Systèmes, making 3DXpert available to all SOLIDWORKS users.
The announcement was made at SOLIDWORKS World 2018 in Los Angeles, with Vyomesh Joshi and Gian Paolo Bassi, CEOs of 3D Systems and SOLIDWORKS respectively, taking to the stage to talk attendees through the partnership. 3DXpert software was brought to market to enable the optimisation of designs for additive manufacturing. By aligning with SOLIDWORKS, the 3DXpert tool is now easily accessible for millions of subscribers to the software brand’s products.
These users can now benefit from a new selection of tools within a familiar CAD environment, making it even easier to prepare and optimise complex designs, before printing them in plastic or metal. Parts can be lightweighted, but maintain strength, and surface texture can be improved to deliver functional and/ or aesthetic benefits. Real-time analysis can be utilised to ensure the quality of parts prior to their manufacture, and a host of automatic features, concerning things like tray set-up, material usage and build time, can allow the user to better manage time.
“We are excited to partner with Dassault Systèmes and help customers experience the reality of 3D printing through the new 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS offering,” said Vyomesh Joshi in a company press release. “This collaboration enables SOLIDWORKS users to create more shapes, more ways, and accelerate product development cycles while lowering costs. We are offering designers a true competitive advantage while re-defining the design and manufacturing process.”
“We’ve seen a tremendous increase in the adoption of additive manufacturing,” added Gian Paolo Bassi. “As a result, we collaborated with 3D Systems to provide SOLIDWORKS users with the tools to help them design specifically for additive manufacturing, which requires a different set of operations and rules than more traditional, subtractive manufacturing. Available with all SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD subscriptions, 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS allows designers to be able to optimise their design for additive manufacturing, check for manufacturability without any waste of time and material, and attain a competitive advantage in the market.”
Dassault Systèmes’ partnership with 3D Systems followed similar alliances with Rize and Nano Dimension, as well as a link-up with Stratasys and Unlimited Tomorrow to accelerate the development of customised prosthetic limbs for children. All announcements were made at SOLIDWORKS World 2018 in LA.
