3D Systems' logo will be sported on a TMG race car for the first time at the FIA World Endurance Championship, August 30-September 1 at Silverstone.
3D Systems and Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) are to develop ‘first-to-market’ 3D printing systems, materials and software platforms after entering into a partnership to change automotive engineering.
Their efforts to develop these products will focus primarily on advanced laser sintering technologies, and a portfolio of materials to support them, that have the capabilities to meet the high-quality, lightweight demands of motorsport.
TMG has also named 3D Systems its ‘Additive Manufacturing Machine Provider of Choice’ and will soon integrate the vendor’s Figure 4 Standalone, ProX 800, sPro 60, sPro 230 machines and Geomagic Design X software into its manufacturing operations.
Both TMG and 3D Systems are already familiar with the other’s industry. 3D Systems has been working with Renault Sport for around 20 years, while in more recent years, Toyota Motorsport has entered into a partnership with DSM to take advantage of its comprehensive portfolio of 3D printing materials. They will both now combine their respective experiences and expertise to bring to market products fit for the demanding environment of motorsport.
“In motorsport, we know that being first is what counts and we bring this same attitude to our entire business,” commented Andreas Schambach, Project General Manager, Future Production Technology at Toyota Motorsport. “We are on the cutting edge of motorsport and want to partner with companies that are leading the way so Toyota can maintain its advantage. TMG has chosen 3D Systems for this partnership because they share our pioneering spirit – exhibited by the fact that they introduced the world to 3D printing. We see the unparalleled potential of combining 3D Systems’ expertise and know-how with that to TMG to create technologies and define new additive manufacturing innovations in the automotive industry.”
“I’m inspired by the potential of our collaboration with Toyota Motorsport. TMG is a known leader in their industry as 3D Systems is in ours,” added Herbert Koeck, EVP, Global go to Market at 3D Systems. “Bringing together our expertise, curiosity, and desire to bring solutions to new applications challenges will yield first-to-market technologies that have the power to redefine an industry. I look forward to the innovation we’ll bring to fruition over the course of this partnership.”
