Ability to print PEKK-based materials with supports is said to enable more complex geometries for high-strength, high-temperature parts.
Polish 3D printer manufacturer 3DGence has announced a collaboration with Arkema and Armor Group to bring a new polyaryletherketone-based (or PAEK) material to its certified filament library.
Armor Group’s Kimya PEKK-A filament, a high-performance material based on Arkema Kepstan PEKK Resin, is now available to print on 3DGence’s INDUSTRY F340 printer along with its ESM-10 support material. The ability to print PEKK-based materials with supports is said to enable more complex geometries for high-strength, high-temperature parts, particularly those with thin-walls and engineered voids. 3DGence believes this collaboration between materials and hardware will open up new possibilities for PEKK applications.
“Ground-breaking 3D printing technology and materials enables our clients to drive their prototyping and light production abilities forward, resulting in significant savings in project execution time, final model use, and ultimately total-cost-of-ownership,” Ron Faruqui, CEO, 3DGence America Inc. said. “Our mission is to continue to develop strong collaborations in printer and material development to bring these innovations to our clients quickly and ensure they can print successfully. It is one thing to have a 3D printer, and 3D materials - but this combination must be engineered and optimised to work together as promised … quickly, reliably and easily.”
Pierre-Antoine Pluvinage, Business Development Director from Armor Group, Kimya Business Division, commented: “We are glad that we could support 3DGence with our knowledge and experience. It has resulted in the creation of a new technological project based on additive manufacturing and now custom material like PEKK can work with reliable 3D printer from 3DGence.”
Roderick Reber, Staff Technical Service Engineer, Arkema Inc. added: “The partnership with 3DGence will enable the development of new industrial 3D printing applications combining their state-of-the-art equipment and the outstanding properties of Kepstan PEKK polymers. Kepstan PEKK has a unique combination of strength, toughness, low flammability and easy processing that make it the ideal material for the most demanding applications.”
3DGence is also said to be announcing a “next-level product” from its INDUSTRY printer line at Formnext next month. The new system is said to deliver “new standards for industrial quality and print speeds.”
