Speciality chemicals company, Evonik Industries has established its first research centre in Singapore where one of the key focuses will be additive manufacturing.
It will be situated in Biopolis, a renowned location for entrepreneurship and R&D activities.
Evonik has been working to provide the additive manufacturing industry with materials for several years, opened a polyamide 12 production plant in 2016, and also began work in HP’s Open Materials and Applications Lab in the Spring of 2017. The new research centre will further strengthen the company’s presence in the AM space, and take advantage of the local and international talents available to it in Singapore.
“We are implementing a workplace strategy during the setup of the research hub to drive a dynamic and proactive workplace culture,” said Peter Meinshausen, Regional President of Evonik Asia Pacific South. “This enables us to build Evonik’s global talent capital and attract top talents.”
The research facility, which will also enable work to be done on functional surfaces, will be home to a team of upward of 50 scientists and researchers, ‘promoting creativity and collaboration.’ It have been established with the support of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), which has been helping the chemicals company to grow its presence within Singapore for the last few years.
“Evonik’s choice of Singapore as the location for this research hub is a statement of confidence in our research capability and availability of skilled talent,” said Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman of EDB. “We look forward to partnering Evonik in this initiative, where one of the topics will be additive manufacturing, that will support Singapore’s efforts in advanced manufacturing as well as further strengthen Singapore’s position in R&D and technologies in Asia and globally.”
