German additive manufacturing material producer, Advanc3D has developed a new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) powder for the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process.
The TPU, named Adsint TPU 80 shA, is considered to be the most stretchy material commercially available for SLS 3D printing and represents somewhat of a breakthrough for the Hamburg-based company.
Since the adaptation of existing material from standard manufacturing processes to 3D printing is not easy, the choice of engineered polymers for the laser sinter process remains limited. Advanc3D’s latest SLS material is subject to very specific conditions. The process stability during printing and the material behaviour after printing, particularly durability and performance, are crucial to successful results. This especially applies to rubber-like material.
Advanc3D’s new TPU material is based on an own-synthesized technology. Its unique characteristic is a very high elongation at break with a value of 600% which leads to a very stretchable product. The smooth surface is a result of perfect spherical particle shape, and smaller particle sizes, which can be seen in microscopic pictures. The hardness of the product can be further lowered by adapting the laser power.
Additionally, the Adsint TPU 80 shA offers food abrasive and chemical resistance. Typical applications of the material include shoe soles, orthopaedic models, hoses, tubes and wheels. It can be used on most printers, but must be processed below a printing temperature of 100°C. Meanwhile, its rate of 100% ensures a high cost advantage. The new TPU is now available and can be delivered in 2kg bottles or 10kg bags.
Advanc3D Materials GmbH is a material producer for additive manufacturing located in Hamburg, Germany. Its portfolio boasts a range of FDM/FFF filaments and SLS powder. The core competence is the development of 3D printing material based on plastic. Advanc3D’s high-performing products result from the chemical expertise and the process competence built up on a wide range of 3D printing machines. The company offers its products to the European and USA markets, while offering onsite support to set the right printing parameters.
