Behemoth of the internet marketplace arena Amazon has launched its 3D printing store in the US.
This news comes just days after rumours surfaced that New York-based 3D printing company MakerBot could be in acquisition talks with an unknown potential buyer. Amazon has been suggested as one of the likely acquirers - among others - due to the fact CEO Jeff Bezos is a major investor in MakerBot.
Amazon's gargantuan web reach could lead to interesting developments as 3D printing trickles into the mainstream. For the time being, the new 3D printing outlet is offering hardware and material supplies for 3D printing but its potential to become a major bureau on the international stage is undeniable.
Amazon is the latest big mainstream name to start offering 3D printing products and services. Color Company, the well-known reprographics franchise, currently offers 3D printing services in its Poland Street branch in central London, while you can buy a Cube 3D printer at colossal stationary warehouse chain Staples.
