Artec 3D has launched a mobile app for its Artec Ray long-range 3D scanning device which will allow users to operate without being connected by wire to a laptop.
The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices and has been developed to give users more freedom when capturing data for large objects.
Artec Ray is able to gather data with sub-millimetre accuracy and from a distance of up to 110 metres away, and by controlling this process from a mobile device via Wi-Fi connection, users are now able to do so at greater ease and a quicker pace.
The app allows scan resolutions to be specified in the Simple Settings Mode pictured on the right, while sensitivity, horizontal and vertical resolution, scanning sounds, and scan texture can all be adjusted in the Advanced Settings Mode. A quick scene preview can also be generated on the app to ensure all of the target object is fully captured, while specific areas can also be targeted with specified settings. Additionally, users are able to save data onto an SD card.
“With large immobile objects such as building, aircrafts, and industrial equipment, it can be challenging to physically be in a position to capture all angles needed to complete a scan,” commented Artyom Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec 3D. “The wireless capabilities that the Artec Ray app offers makes it easy to digitally capture environments or objects from difficult to reach locations that otherwise wouldn’t be possible to reach both scanner and operator to occupy. For instance, when scanning the top on aeroplane, the Artec Ray can be positioned on an elevated platform, while the user safely operates it from the ground.”
