DigiFabster has announced it is extending the capabilities of its software-as-a-service solution to include Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining applications.
The California-based company previously focused its cloud-based CRM and instant quotation solutions on the additive manufacturing industry but is now opening up those capabilities to tool and die and machine shops to enable eCommerce operations and automate front-end processes.
"Many of our customers provide both additive and subtractive manufacturing solutions for their clients," says DigiFabster CEO, Constantine Ivanov. "Many of them were telling us they wanted to use our software to manage both workflows. While CNC machining is certainly different from 3D printing, there are some similarities. We have leveraged our years of experience working with advanced algorithms and software design to meet a new requirement and deliver more value for our customers."
DigiFabster’s "widget" can be placed on nearly any web page to allow customers to select their manufacturing options and receive an automatic online quote. Its back-end configuration tools allows managers to tailor material options and automatically calculate machine time along with options for post processing and finishing.
"CNC milling is definitely a different animal," says DigiFabster COO, Peter Van der Zouwen. "The calculations needed to generate an accurate quote are often more complex than with 3D printing. We spent a significant amount of time making sure we understood the relationship between materials and machine time, among other variables. Our beta-testers are very happy with the results."
DigiFabster says it aims to automate tasks such as quoting, order entry and customer management to free up manufacturers to spend more time on higher-value activities. The company says some of its current customers have already seen labour costs drop by at least 20% and revenue growth by 25% per month.
