EnvisionTEC has announced an exciting new addition to its range of high-precision 3D printers today (December 3rd) at EuroMold in Frankfurt, the Xtreme 3SP and Xede 3SP large-frame 3D printers.
The company, which is based in Gladbeck, Germany, has described the unveiling as "the next big thing" for additive manufacturing.
Previously part of EnvisionTEC's Perfactory family of 3D printers utilising DLP technology, these new Xtreme and Xede machines now take advantage of EnvisionTEC's new 3SP (scan, spin and selectively photocure) technology. This new approach to 3D printing employs a multi-cavity laser diode with an orthogonal mirror spinning at 20,000 rpm. One of the advantages of this technology is that it expands on the build size capability of EnvisionTEC's DLP technology, enabling EnvisionTEC to produce 3D printers with a large format. Light is reflected through a spinning drum and goes through a series of optical elements thereby focusing the light onto the surface of the photopolymer across the Y-axis.The 3SP system allows users to efficiently print high-precision parts from STL files in 3D - regardless of the geometric complexity - with a surface quality showing virtually no signs of stairstepping on the inner and outer surfaces.
The Imaging Light Source (ILS), which contains the multi cavity laser diode, its driver, and all optics, travels in the X-axis at 1-2 inches per second (material dependent) as the light is scanning in the Y direction and selectively photocuring the polymer based on the path data set.
This new technology also allows for larger build sizes compared to EnvisionTEC’s DLP-based technology. The EnvisionTEC team will be demonstrating the capabilities of the Xede 3SP in Hall 11.0 Booth C140 at Euromold 2013, along with the full range of EnvisionTEC 3D printing solutions, including the best-selling Perfactory Micro EDU.
