Z3DFAB, a digital additive manufacturing facility in the Republic of Korea, has installed an EOS M 290 3D printing system with EOSTATE MeltPool, the first in the East Asian country.
The facility is the result of a joint venture between Z3DLAB, a French additive manufacturing company, and HS-HITECH, a Korean semi-conductor cleaning expert. Their objective is to equip the 10,000 metre-squared facility with 27 machines to produce certifiable medical products.
EOS’ M 290 platform was launched in 2014 and enables users to manufacture high quality metal parts. The EOSTATE MeltPool came to market months later, and makes possible the transparent display of the complex melting process. Separating the process light from the reflected laser light, the EOSTATE MeltPool software measures light emissions, and captures and processes the captured data. It enables the melt pool to be monitored and analysed, giving the user a better understanding of the build process, and thus what is manufactured.

The solutions have been harnessed by Z3DFB as it aims to become the best facility of its kind in the country, and serve the medical sector with high quality, 3D printed end-use parts.
“We have been working very hard with our French partner to [make] Z3DFAB a ‘best in class’ AM centre,” said Seong Soo Kim, CEO of HS-HITECH. “AM technology is to be compared to foundry, parts do not come out finished. It is not a press button industry. Since last year, until now, we have combined our knowhow in cleaning and machining with our partner’s knowledge of AM, to establish unique post-processing protocols to be ready for medical certification ISO 13485 and production. And the arrival of the EOS M 290 EOSTATE MeltPool will contribute into keeping high standards.”
