FARO Laser Tracker Vantage with JCB
It’s a name that has been recognised all over the world since its launch in 1945. From a one man operation to an 11,000 strong workforce, JCB, world leader in backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers, is adopting modern measuring technologies with the FARO Laser Tracker Vantage, to aid jig and fixture calibration.
The technology is being provided by Manchester Metrology, specialists in the measurement of engineered components in heavy engineering. JCB has utilised Manchester Metrology’s services and the FARO Laser Tracker, an extremely accurate, portable coordinate measuring machine that optimises measuring processes, in its practice.
In JCB’s continued mission to research and develop in the area of sustainability, the company has invested in developing new machining centres and extremely accurate jigs and fixtures including a stringent policy of regular jig and fixture calibration.
The FARO Laser Tracker has been adopted to provide the precision the company requires by detailing traceable certificates and pre-emoting possible problems for further action.
Andy Young, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, said, “As the accuracy of our jigs and fixtures plays such a critical role in the precision of our fabrications an the eventual build quality of our products, we made a decision to establish a jig and fixture calibration regime with calibration time intervals based on the perceived requirements of each individual piece of equipment.”
Manchester Metrology are experienced within the field of metrology and possess experience in a range of FARO equipment for fast and thorough measuring solutions.
Owner of Manchester Metrology, Paul Bulman, said, “The precision of the FARO Vantage Laser Tracker used by Manchester Metrology for calibrating our jigs and fixtures enables the generation of detailed traceable certificates.”
Young, added, “Manchester Metrology’s use of the FARO Laser Tracker has proved invaluable in determining the accurate of our first-off prototypes, prior to being signed off for manufacture.”
Visitors to this year’s TCT Show + Personalize will be able to get a first hand look at various FARO metrology products at the NEC, Birmingham, UK between September 30th and October 2nd.
