German selective laser sintering company, FKM Sintertechnik GmbH, is expanding its metal 3D printing production capacity in Biedenkopf with a new 700m2 facility featuring additive manufacturing systems from Concept Laser.
The company’s large manufacturing capacity already includes Concept Laser’s Mlab cusing and M2 cusing systems along with metal AM models from other machine manufacturers. A new M2 Cusing MultiLaser system was installed towards the end of last year with another scheduled to be added shortly.
The M2 cusing MultiLaser system has been upgraded from the inside out with a fully integrated design. Built with a primary focus on safety, the system features a new filter concept with a filter surface five times greater in size and a new module that means replacement intervals can be extended.
“Build rates and the suitability of MultiLaser technology for batch production fit very nicely with our business strategy, and we also want to be involved with very large build chambers,” Harald Henkel, Managing Director of FKM Sintertechnik GmbH, commented. “A new X line 2000R from Concept Laser featuring the world's largest build envelope for powder-bed-based laser melting with metals will be delivered to us here in Biedenkopf in Q1 2016."

The new X line 2000R machine features a build chamber of 800 x 400 x 500 mm boasting an increased volume up to 160 litres. The system operates with two 1,000 watt lasers and a rotating mechanism which allows two build modules to be used in turn, allowing a constant flow of production. A new quieter sieving solution has also been added to deliver a more compact design and reduce the system’s footprint.
Henkel, added: "The market is currently developing toward batch production of 3D metallic products. In addition to the classic small batches and prototypes, industrial production lot sizes with a distinctive serial character are appearing now as well. With the strategic expansion of our 3D printing capacity, we want to be able to respond to increasing demand in a very flexible way and also to get in on increasing product dimensions."
