Formlabs stand at Euromold

When you ask for $100,000 on Kickstarter and fall just shy of $3 million the task of fulfilling all those pledges goes from manageable to mammoth. But Formlabs are proud to announce that they have now completed those orders and the Form 1 is now on desktops throughout the globe, from Beijing to Boston.
“This is the end of a phase,” said a proud Formlabs cofounder, Maxim Lobovsky. “We’re thankful for the incredible opportunity that our Kickstarter backers gave us, and with the amazing team we’ve built, we’re looking forward to continue to develop great tools.” After closing a $19M funding found in October of this year, the company has ambitious plans for 2014.
Natan Linder, a Formlabs cofounder, added, “The Kickstarter community is our rock. They gave us our start, and we’re going to continue to support them. It’s great to be at this stage, now, and we’ll be expanding our team to keep doing what they set us out to do. We’re building machines to change the world.”
The SLA 3D printer was spawned from a three-person team at MIT, after their runaway Kickstarter success the Somerville, Massachusetts-based company now boasts a 35 member team of “all-stars”.
Some of those all-stars are here at Euromold and one member informed us that R&D is an area they expanding rapidly and a priority for them is creating wax like resins for jewellery casting processes.
The Formlabs team are constantly busy on their stand with their printers and a new colour Resin. As well as the Clear and Grey resin currently popular with Form 1 users Luke told us, “Our next colour resin will be white, model-making has been a huge application for Form 1’s and this is perfect for that market who are looking to paint their hi-resolution models.”
One of those model-makers is Robert Vignone, a senior modeler at Dreamworks SKG. Vignone, whose credits include Avatar and Hellboy regularly blogs about his adventures in 3D printing and is an avid Formlabs forum user.
