GKN Powder Metallurgy celebrates opening of North American PM HQ and AM Customer Centre.
GKN Powder Metallurgy has cut the ribbon on its new North American Powder Metallurgy Headquarters and Additive Manufacturing (AM) Customer Centre in Michigan.
Located in Auburn Hills, the 38,260 square foot facility is designed to expand the company’s global 3D printing network and in-house powder metallurgy capabilities with 20,700 square feet of collaborative working areas and 17,700 square feet of shop floor space. The facility will house over 80 employees across GKN Powder Metallurgy's Hoeganaes, GKN Sinter Metals and GKN Additive businesses.
"We are excited to start a new journey in Auburn Hills with a space that is dedicated to our team, our community and the advanced technology we create for our customers," said Reid Southby, President, GKN Sinter Metals Large Segment. "This building reinforces our commitment to the North American market and continued global growth."
The AM Customer Centre is equipped with two EOS M290 Direct Metal Laser Sinter (DMLS) systems which will allow customers to test product usability, ergonomics, manufacturability and materials in the early stages of the development process.
"GKN Powder Metallurgy is at an exhilarating point in its journey of growth and innovation," Southby added. "We now have the opportunity to provide our customers and strategic partners with local and exceptional support on all fronts of our business."
GKN has been rapidly expanding its global footprint with the launch of a new metal 3D printing customer centre in China earlier this year and a new Global Technology Centre in the UK focused on additive manufacturing, advanced composites, assembly and industry 4.0 processes, scheduled for completion next year. The company is also one of only two manufacturing partners selected for HP’s new Metal Jet technology and according to initial reports, is expected to print millions of production-grade HP Metal Jet parts for its customers this year.
