World leader in metal powder production, GKN Hoeganaes has entered into a joint venture agreement with TLS Technik to manufacture titanium powders for additive manufacturing (AM) in North America.
German company, TLS has 20 years of experience manufacturing titanium powder for the AM market. The new joint venture is set to increase the source of titanium metal powders for the aerospace and medical markets in the North America region.
The news complements GKN’s previously announced powder R&D efforts in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. The new facility will open in 2017 and strengthens GKN’s market leadership with a proven leading-edge technology suitable for serial production of Titanium powders at the high quality standards required for additive manufacturing.
Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 ICC manufactured by GKN Aerospace.
GKN's Aerospace division has also just extended its partnership with Rolls-Royce on the Trent XWB-84 engine, the world’s most efficient aero engine. The multi-million dollar agreement extends the design and supply of a lower weight, higher performance intermediate compressor case (ICC) for the enhanced performance of the engine. GKN Aerospace has employed the very latest design methodologies including additive manufacturing and new welding techniques, to create this ICC.
First deliveries to Rolls-Royce of the ICC for the enhanced performance Trent XWB-84 engine are scheduled for early 2018. This engine will power the A350-900 family, entering into service in early 2020.
