Henkel's Loctite 3D Printer.
Henkel has launched a portfolio of 3D printing resins and post processing bonding kit under the Loctite brand.
Additionally, the company has also unveiled the Loctite 3D Printer which has been developed for prototyping.
The materials include two silicone grades, as well as high impact, transparent, and high temperature products. The Silicone Elastomeric 5010 and 5015 materials boast viscosity of 550-600 mPas, a 190% elongation at break, and Shore A Hardness of 60 and 80 respectively. Although these materials are yet to be medically approved, Henkel does eye the healthcare sector as there most fruitful vertical for these options, while there has been interest from companies in the sports consumer goods and automotive markets. The Ultra Clear material meanwhile has a print appearance transparency of 80-90%, a viscosity of 800-900 mPas, and a tensile strength at break of 20-30 MPa.
Meaning to deliver an end-to-end 3D printing platform, Henkel has also introduced a DLP prototyping system, a curing chamber and a post-processing bonding kit. The printer is compatible with a host of resins on the market in addition to Henkel’s new portfolio, and promises ‘super-fast’ build speeds and the capacity to print multiple parts per build. The CL36 LED Curing Chamber has been engineered for parts printed in Loctite resins, and is equipped with low heat emission LED and automatic rotary table. Finally, the bonding solutions kit has been developed not just for Henkel’s 3D printing offering, but a host of processes, including FDM, Carbon’s CLIP, and HP’s Multi Jet Fusion. It consists of two differenty 3D printing adhesives, cleaning, priming and activating materials, and Henkel also offers training via tutorials and webinars.
The company has made these announcements at its first ever Formnext, Henkel having only moved into the additive manufacturing market in 2016. It has since partnered with the likes of Ultimaker and HP, who help to supplement Henkel’s new prototyping and low-series manufacturing offering with more industrial production capacities. Its new products are being showcased at Formnext in Hall 3.1, Booth H59.
“Formnext is an ideal platform to strengthen our positioning as partner for end to end 3D printing processes – for prototyping as well as for applications in the production of final parts,” commented Phillipp Loosen, Head of 3D Printing at Henkel. “We will present the market launch of our open system including a new generation of resin platforms customised for various printing purposes. In addition, we will also showcase the expansion of our broad enabling portfolio, for example our new Loctite adhesives suitable for the majority of bonding applications in post processing.”
