Ambit high-rate head in INTEGREX i-400 AM
Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies has announced its contribution to the debut of the INTEGREX i-400AM, the world’s first hybrid manufacturing machine with the ability to change metal deposition rates.
Made by Yamazaki Mazak Corporation, the machine is equipped with multiple Hybrid Ambit laser cladding heads which can be changed to move between high rate and fine metal deposition.
The result is a superior flexibility for optimised cladding for application in large area surface coating and detailed build up of 3D geometry.
Mazak claims: “Hybrid multi-tasking will provide our customers world-wide with new possibilities for their Mazak machines.” These possibilities include the ability to make parts from multiple materials such as nickel based alloy onto stainless steel substrate and also faster cycle times that provide the same high level of finishing.
This is the first additive manufacturing product for Mazak, which was developed collaboratively with Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies. Dr. Jason Jones, CEO of Hybrid said: “We are honoured that Mazak chose our Ambit range of tool-changeable cladding heads to be at the heart of their new INTEGREX i-AM series of machines. The ability to automatically change deposition heads gives this machine a unique advantage over other hybrid offerings.”
Leveraging the “two heads are better than one” philosophy, the INTEGREX i-AM series gives the best of both additive and subtractive manufacturing. More manufacturers are now recognising that the benefits of additive manufacturing come from a combination of both processes and this hybrid approach leads the way for new applications and products that would otherwise be impossible when using just one single technique.
