iBox Printers have revealed the iBox Nano on Kickstarter as the world’s smallest and most affordable 3D Resin Printer. Created with the home based user in mind, the printer is set to break the barriers around 3D printing and put the technology into the hands of everyone.
According to the Nano’s Kickstarter page: “The Nano is the start of the home based 3D printing and replicating age.” Although some would argue the home personal 3D printing era is already here due to the range of desktop and consumer friendly machines already available, the Nano claims to have gone a few steps further and really focused on transitioning this technology into people’s homes.
The Nano has a few accolades up its sleeve as not only the world’s smallest and most affordable resin printer but also the world’s only battery powered and LCD based UV Resin printer. It is also the quietest and lightest.
iBox Nano 3D printer
The Nano uses a unique form or resin based 3D printing. Most resin printers use DLP technology to create and control the UV light and cure the resin. These projector bulbs tend to have a lifetime between 2000-8000 hours before they need replacing. Instead, the Nano uses UV LEDs rated at over 50,000 hours running time. This method produces very little noise and does not require a cooling fan.
Some of the specs include; an XY resolution of 328 microns and Z between 0.39 and 100 microns, a build area of 40 x 20 x 90 mm and Wi-Fi capability for 100% browser based printer software. This means that the machine can be controlled via any browser including those on your smartphone and tablet which includes a complete ecosystem of open source and free software for 3D modelling and editing.
As the cheapest resin based 3D printer on the market, the lowest pledge option on the printer’s Kickstarter page of $189 has already sold out. Backers can now get themselves a machine for $229 which is still an incredibly low price tag in comparison to its competitors. The goal is to raise $300,000 before the deadline on 14th November.
