M3D, a 3D printing company based in Maryland, USA has announced the official launch of its new M3D Pro and Micro+ 3D printers.
The company was founded in 2012, and in 2014 launched its Micro 3D printer on Kickstarter. One half of M3D’s new consumer printer line, the Micro+ is the successor of the Micro, the company’s flagship machine.
The other half of that line, the M3D Pro, was the subject of its own Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign last year, and generated over $960,000. It was first showcased at the 2016 CEWeek in New York, and has been designed for customers to bring a reliable and affordable large format solution. The M3D Pro is cube-shaped, with dimensions of 10.5 inches per side, and weighs 4.7lbs. It can build parts up to 7.8 inches tall and 7in x 7in in width. The printer can support nozzles of four size: 0.35mm,, 0.4mm, 0.5mm, and 0.75mm.
Featuring a geared direct drive, the M3D Pro supports flexible filaments, such as Tough 3D Ink, a patent-pending heated glass print bed which uses three times less power. Its capacity for supporting filaments extends to all industry-standard 1.75mm filaments, including particle-filled and high temperature materials. The platform also boasts a Dual-ARM processor system which combines data from over 20 different sensors, providing more consistency and reliability.
Using a 750-micron nozzle to fuse plastic layers together with a stronger bond, M3D believe the structural printing mode to be unique. It delivers parts just as strong as their injection moulded counterparts, according to the company.
M3D plans to release additional features to the Pro through future software updates. These may include an embedded recovery mode that allows the printer to detect and offer real-time solutions to issues, such as filament shortages and jams.
Meanwhile, the Micro+, M3D’s second-generation of the iconic Micro 3D Printer, builds on its predecessor’s reputation as a quality entry-level 3D printer for all audiences. Boasting dimension of 7.3in per side and weight of 2.35lbs, the Micro+ maintains a small and light frame. It can print objects up to 4.6in tall and 4.3in x 4.5in wide, while its solitary nozzle is 0.35mm.
With its more advanced ARM processor core doubling the print speed, the Micro+ allows greater compatibility with third party software. Like the M3D Pro, this printer will also offer a range of updates through future firmware updates, such as power loss recovery mode and untethered print.
“M3D is, at its core, a technology and business process innovation company,” said Michael Armani, CEO and Co-Founder of M3D. “Our story started with 3D printers but we’re continually working to break barriers to make amazing new technologies more accessible to people all over the world, and we think the M3D Pro and Micro+ are perfect examples of how to make that happen.”
The M3D Pro retails at $749 and comes with a two-year warranty, while the Micro+ retails at $299 and comes with a one-year warranty.
